Firefighters Busy With A 3-Alarm Rowhome Fire On The Northside, Three Homes Damaged

May 08, 2011 at 4:48pm

Allentown, PA - 16:08 hours Box 2332 was transmitted for the 400 block of Greenleaf Street on a house fire. Engines 6, 4, 9, Truck 2 and BC 4 (M. Scheirer) respond.

Truck 2 arrives and transmits a second alarm for heavy fire to the rear of a 2-1/2 story E/O/R - 430 Greenleaf.

2 lines are stretched into the original fire building. With heavy fire consuming the rear and spreading to exposure 2 and the one beyond that, BC 4 transmits the 3rd alarm.

Crews stretch 2 lines into 428 and 1 line into 426 and stop the fire there. With fire in the attic areas of two homes, BC 4 special-calls one additional engine on top of the 3rd alarm.

BC 4 requested a third hand line into the original fire building to extinguish fire in the attic.

Companies darken down the bulk of the fire within 15 minutes. Firefighters worked another hour overhauling and checking for extension. Three homes were damaged in the fire.

5 lines were stretched and operating. Truck 2 was in-service in front of the building, as truck crews cut vent holes in exposure 2 and the original fire building.

Every piece of apparatus was working at this fire. Surrounding volunteer companies came in to man city firehouses.

2nd alarm: Engines 10, 14 and Air 1. 3rd alarm: Ladder 1. Special-Call Engine 11
