House Fire In Catasauqua Goes To 2 Alarms

July 31, 2011 at 2:44am

Catasauqua, PA - Lehigh County transmitted a house fire at 12:19AM for 742 3rd Street, sending companies 2 and 18. Chief 2 (Hertzog) arrived on-scene to find heavy fire on the bravo side of a two-story S/F/D and transmitted the second alarm. Ladder 2 arrives but isn't used because of the power lines. Engine 2 and Engine 18 bring a water supply from both directions on 3rd to the front of the fire building.

Crews make a quick hit and darken down the bulk of the fire, but not before it extended into the attic. The exposure on the bravo side (740) sustained heavy damage to the exterior of the dwelling. Fire extended into the first floor of 740 through the walls. Crews got in there and opened up.

Engine 11 (Whitehall) worked in the attic of the main fire building, hitting hot spots and cleaned out the attic to make room so that they could check for more extension. The clutter in the attic hindered their efforts.

The fire appeared to start on the exterior of 742, facing the side of 740.

Crews from multiple departments assisted at the scene, including Whitehall, Han-Le-Co, Northampton, Greenawalds (R.I.T.) and Coplay for their air unit.

The fire is under investigation and is being assisted by the Allentown Fire Marshall's office.

The fire department responded to a house fire at 740 3rd Street on April 15, 2011. See that story here.
