Neighbors Use Garden Hose On House Fire, Leaving Just The Clean-up For Firefighters

May 07, 2011 at 3:11pm

Whitehall, PA - A Whitehall Firefighter calls in a working house fire at 450 Carolina Avenue. Fire was venting from a window on the first floor of a 2-story E/O/R. I arrive with camera rolling, but I didn't see any flames. How can I beat the engine here, and not have flames?

While companies were enroute, two neighbors took a garden hose from a house two doors away and attacked the fire, the garden hose extinguished the bulk of the fire. That little hose did what?

Engine 1 arrives and stretches a hand line and water can to the inside to find a sofa that was on fire. Crews went to the second floor for a search and found a crib that was empty. The search came up negative.

No one was home at the time of the fire.

Engines 1, 2 and Truck 6 responded on the box.
